Labour's Economic Renewal Programme has only helped 16 businesses

Welsh Labour’s flagship business support scheme, the Economic Renewal Programme, has only helped 16 businesses in the first six months of this year, according to data released by the Welsh Conservatives today. This equates to less than one business a week.

Silk Commission welcomed

Commenting on the announcement from the Secretary of State for Wales of the membership and terms of reference of the Silk Commission, Andrew RT Davies AM, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the National Assembly, said:

“Unhealthy” rise in teacher stress leave

Teachers’ stress leave increased by at least 14 per cent in Wales over the last two years. In all – during 2009/10 – Welsh teachers needed over 60,000 days away from the classroom due to stress.“Strain and pressure that is serious enough to keep one teacher at home for a single day deserves attention. The loss of tens of thousands of days for many more teachers is an urgent issue that should be identified by the Minister and dealt with as a matter of priority."

Cancer Drugs Fund not freebie policies

The National Assembly will vote on establishing a Cancer Drugs Fund for Wales tomorrow following a Welsh Conservative debate on improving cancer services. Last week, a report published by the Welsh Cancer Intelligence and Surveillance Unit, concluded that while survival rates are improving, the number of people in Wales being diagnosed with cancer is rising.

Council Tax freeze call to support Welsh families

Welsh Conservatives today called on Welsh Labour Ministers to follow the lead of the UK Coalition by introducing a Council Tax freeze next year.The Welsh Labour Government is to receive a Barnett consequential in the light of the £805million freeze for Council Tax payers in England.  Families in England are already benefiting from a Council Tax freeze this year, which Welsh Ministers decided not to implement in Wales.

Businesses still 'in the dark' over bag charge

Shadow Minister for Environment, Russell George AM, has claimed many businesses remain completely in the dark over the bag charge – days before its introduction. Shortly before the new regulations come into effect, Mr George has cast further doubt over the amount of information retailers have received from the government.
