Welsh Conservatives have welcomed the UK Government’s decision to award pay rises for police and prison officers.
Under new plans announced today, Conservatives will deliver a 1.7% pay rise to prison officers and a 1% pay rise for police.
Number 10 also signalled an end to the 1% pay cap.
Commenting, leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies, said:
“This decision is hugely welcome and shows a Conservative Government which recognises and values the vital contribution of our public sector workers.
“For the sake of employee retention and the delivery of world class public services, it is vital that staff are fairly remunerated, and today’s decision ensures this.
“This stands in stark contrast to the actions of the First Minister, who last night publicly incited strike action – a move which would place our public services in jeopardy.
“Curiously he has little time to reflect on his own handling of industrial disputes - less still the four months it took his Labour Government to resolve the strike action taken by National Museum of Wales staff over pay.”
