Commenting ahead of Tuesday’s ‘Stage 3’ debate on the Human Transplantation Bill, Shadow Minister for Health Darren Millar AM, said:
“A landmark day lies ahead and it is absolutely essential that this emotive issue continues to be properly debated.
“Deemed consent represents a significant and controversial departure from the current system and there are a number of anxieties that must continue to be scrutinised and appropriately addressed.
“Capacity in critical care, increased awareness and education of the main issues, and the rights of the family must all be debated.
“Welsh Conservative amendments to this Bill reflect these concerns, along with priorities around children and the vulnerable, treatments and nominated representatives.
“We are fully supportive of increasing organ donation throughout Wales and look forward to positively engaging with all parties in Tuesday’s historic debate.”
