Welsh Conservatives have today urged Welsh farmers to respond to the Welsh Government’s “Brexit and Our Land” consultation.
The consultation includes detailed productivity and environment measures – but NFU Cymru have expressed concern that it appears to suggest volatility measures are not required.
Shadow rural affairs spokesperson Andrew RT Davies said:
“While I welcome the productivity and environment measures included in the consultation – the lack of measures to tackle volatility is a regrettable and glaring omission – which the Welsh Government must address.
“In launching this consultation now – the Welsh Government have once again shown they are behind the curve.
“The UK Government are already legislating in this area – with a bill coming before Parliament before the summer recess – which has the potential to be as important as the Agricultural Bill of 1947.
“It is sadly the case that successive Welsh Governments have not lived up to their ambitions for the rural economy in Wales – with much of the processing sector in meat and dairy moving to other parts of the UK.”
