Horsemeat response review welcome

Commenting on the Natural Resources Minister’s announcement of a ‘review of the response made to the horsemeat incidents by all the relevant Welsh authorities’, Shadow Minister for Rural Affairs Antoinette Sandbach AM said:

“Welsh Labour Ministers were extremely slow off the mark when the horsemeat scandal broke and this review is very welcome.

“It took the minister for food almost a week to even meet the FSA following initial developments in January. Then another three weeks to meet anyone else.

“He failed to get a grip on the scandal or understand its significance and we must make sure that never happens again.

“Liaison with other UK departments is crucial and I welcome the minister’s commitment to that wholeheartedly.”
