Commenting on the publication of health service priorities for 2013/14 – by NHS Wales’ Chief Executive – Shadow Minister for Health Darren Millar AM said:
“While I am pleased to see many Welsh Conservative calls heeded by NHS bosses, cancer patients and their families will sadly be left wanting.
“There is nothing here to suggest the cancer delivery plan will be dusted off and implemented, no guarantees on abysmal cancer waiting times, and nothing to address the unfair divide in access to cancer drugs.
“Welsh patients are five times less likely to routinely access some cancer drugs than patients elsewhere in the UK. Yet this remains painfully absent from the list of priorities.
“I urge the Health Minister to look carefully at this unfinished document and properly consider the needs of cancer patients and their families.”
