Two prominent Welsh Conservative politicians have opened up about their struggles with mental health.
Speaking on ‘World Mental Health Day’, Assembly Members David Melding and Angela Burns both tweeted their support for the day and encouraged others to talk about any problems they may have.
They reflected on their own experiences in order to raise awareness of the issue.
David Melding AM – the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Housing, Heritage, Culture and Media – tweeted: “Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay. I have openly talked about my past struggles with Mental Health, and I can’t stress enough the importance of knowing that it’s OK to say you are not OK. Please reach out and talk to family and friends. Let’s ensure good mental health for all”.
Angela Burns AM – the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health – tweeted: “On #WorldMentalHealthDay2018 I can't stress how important it is to talk and for people to listen without censure or prejudice. I'm only now coping with PTSD gained from horrendous health experiences culminating in sepsis in 2015. I thought I had to be "strong". I'm stronger now”.
Both Assembly Members have actively campaigned to improve mental health awareness in the past.
