Suzy Davies AM, Welsh Conservative Shadow Education Minister, has commented on the Welsh Government’s teachers’ pay increase announcement today. She said:
“This pay increase is a welcome boost for hard-working teachers across Wales who go above and beyond day in, day out, for this country’s next generation.
“But while I’m pleased to see the Welsh Government follow Westminster’s lead on upping teachers’ pay, this can’t distract from the severe funding crisis which continues to blight Welsh schools.
“Until the complex funding formula for schools is fully reformed, as recommended by the Assembly's education Committee, schools remain vulnerable to impossible budget choices. The funding fog is back. From the minute the money leaves London and arrives in Cardiff Bay, it gets harder and harder to establish why so little money gets to the school front line.
“I remain positive however that today’s announcement is at least a step in the direction of improving morale for school leaders, their staff and children and pupils.”
