Commenting on the statement from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board responding to a damning joint report from the Wales Audit Office and Health Inspectorate Wales on the Board’s governance arrangements, Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Health, said:
“Ultimate responsibility for the problems and serious failings identified in this scathing report lies squarely on the shoulders of the Chair and Vice-Chair – and it was inevitable that someone had to go.
“NHS chiefs now need to come clean on the risks patients have faced and on the extent of premature deaths from C Difficile and other preventable infections at North Wales hospitals due to the governance failings which this report exposes.
“Clearly - financial pressures have also contributed to patient safety being seriously compromised and led to patients waiting longer for treatment.
“For the sake of patient safety - the Health Minister must now intervene and take urgent action to restore patient confidence across the region.”
