Commenting on today’s published list of Welsh Government ‘trade missions and exhibitions’ for 2013/14, Shadow Minister for Business Nick Ramsay AM, said:
"This far-reaching list of destinations appears to show greater emphasis on the overseas market – at last.
"While the list is welcome, the many tens of thousands of air miles must translate into significant and numerous opportunities.
"Globe-trotting works well – if globe-trotting Ministers work well.
"These cannot be treated as vanity projects. Businesses and leading university academics must also be given the opportunity to travel and sell.
"Exports dropped dramatically in 2012 and Wales remains rooted to the bottom of the UK inward investment league table.
"A change in approach is needed and Carwyn Jones’ government must sell Wales effectively.
"Taxpayers deserve to see positive outcomes and these trips must get results at the earliest opportunities."
