The merger between steel giantsTata and ThyssenKrupp will mean more security for workers, according to the two companies.
The merger has been welcomed by the unions.
They believe it will bring greater certainty for Tata's 8,500 UK workers, including 6,250 in Wales.
Commenting, Shadow Secretary for Economy and Transport, Russell George AM, said:
“We welcome the recently announced merger between two of Europe’s largest steel producers.
“This commercial partnership will bring a new scale to their respective operations that will in turn help boost job security in Wales’ steel workforce.
“Going forward, the dedication and skill of steel workers in Wales will help drive the success of this new industrial merger.
