Welsh Government to ban plastic ‘microbeads’

The Welsh Government is to follow the UK Government’s lead in introducing a ban on plastic microbeads in cosmetics; a move welcomed by Welsh Conservatives.

A consultation will be launched later in the year to discuss how to enforce a ban.

The Welsh Conservatives said collaboration between UK and Welsh government on environmental issues would bring “significant benefits”.

Shadow Environment Secretary, David Melding, said:

“I am pleased that the Welsh Government has worked with the UK Government on this important issue.

“Working collaboratively on these environmental issues will bring significant benefits.

“protecting our seas from plastic pollution should be a top priority.”
