Protecting rural communities

Welsh Conservatives have promoted a Charter for Rural Wales, a compilation of policies designed to support Wales’ agricultural industry, protect rural communities and enhance the natural environment of Wales.

Welsh Conservatives will reward all serving and former armed forces personnel with free local bus travel and other benefits including free swimming, free access to CADW heritage sites, priority NHS treatment for service-related injuries and medical conditions and priority delivery of disabled facilities for home adaptation.

Creation of a North Wales Minister

Welsh Conservatives have announced a commitment to appoint an Assembly Minister with responsibility for North Wales. Making a keynote speech in Llandudno, the Party’s Leader in the Assembly pledged to give the region’s communities and businesses a far greater voice within the Assembly.

£1200 a day on empty offices

The cost of running empty office space across the WAG estate is currently over £1200 a day. That’s according to figures obtained by the Welsh Conservatives. The total amount of vacant space within the Assembly Government’s administrative estate stands at 1,817 square metres.

3,641% rise in patients waiting over 36 weeks for treatment

Welsh Conservatives today expressed anger at figures showing Welsh patients waiting more than nine months for NHS treatment. Figures out this morning show the number of patients waiting more than 36 weeks for treatment has risen by an astonishing 13,631% in the last 12 months, while the number waiting between 26 and 36 weeks has risen by 530% to 18,505.

90,000 rodent-related ‘visits’

Local authority pest controllers made nearly 90,000 rodent-related visits across Wales during 2009/10, following nearly 42,000 calls for help.  That’s an average of well over a hundred calls every day of the year.
